E.] 1970:362 [Proceedings of the Biological Society of Washington v. 83 (no. 33); ref. 7772] Northwestern Pacific, off northern Honshu, Japan, 38°35'N, 142°53'E, surface. Holotype: ZIN 39127. Paratypes: (4). •Synonym of Benthodesmus elongatus (Clarke 1879), but a valid subspecies as described -- (Nakamura in Okamura et al. 1982:267, 390 [ref. 8256], Nakamura in Masuda et al. 1984:227 [ref. 6441], Parin in Whitehead et al. 1986:978 [ref. 13676], McAllister 1990:178 [ref. 14674]). •Valid as Benthodesmus pacificus Parin & Becker 1970 -- (Parin & Becker 1973:463 [ref. 7206], Nakamura & Parin 1993:78 [ref. 21769], Nelson et al. 2004:175 [ref. 27807], Love et al. 2005:166 [ref. 37547], Mundy 2005:502 [ref. 28379], Page et al. 2013:181 [ref. 32708], Pietsch & Orr 2015:67 [ref. 34694], Burton & Lea 2019:92 [ref. 37205], Love et al. 2021:210 [ref. 39279]). Current status: Valid as Benthodesmus pacificus Parin & Becker 1970. Trichiuridae: Aphanopodinae. Distribution: North Pacific: Kyushu-Palau Ridge and Ryukyu Islands (Japan); British Columbia (Canada) south to central California (U.S.A.). Habitat: marine.
