Appeared first as above, then in more detail in Boulenger 1898:21, Fig 1b [ref. 547]; also in Boulenger 1900:145, Pl. 54 (fig. 3) [ref. 555]. •Valid as Xenotilapia melanogenys (Boulenger 1898) -- (Takahashi 2003:46 [ref. 26772]). •Valid as Enantiopus melanogenys (Boulenger 1898) -- (Maréchal & Poll 1991:85 [ref. 20946], Poll & Gosse 1995:239 [ref. 24781], Konings 2015:314 [ref. 34660], Konings 2019:331 [ref. 36983]). Current status: Valid as Enantiopus melanogenys (Boulenger 1898). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Tanganyika. Habitat: freshwater.
