velifera, Coryphaena Pallas [P. S.] 1770:19, Pl. 3 (fig. 1) [Spicilegia Zoologica v. 1 (fasc. 8); ref. 12293] In Oceano utriusque Indiae, praesertim Orientalis [Indian Ocean]. Lectotype: RMNH (whereabouts unknown). Lectotype selected by Fricke 1999:263 [ref. 24106] as the specimen shown in the original figure (Pl. 3, fig. 1) in Pallas. Based on a specimen in RMNH, and on illustrations by Ruysch, Valentyn and Renard. Combined with a neuter genus, the adjective should be veliferum. •Valid as Pteraclis velifera (Pallas 1770) -- (Mead 1972:115 [ref. 6976], Smith 1986:634 [ref. 5712], Paulin et al. 1989:186 [ref. 24556], Fricke 1999:262 [ref. 24106], Béarez et al. 2001:183 [ref. 25568], Last & Moteki 2001:2835 [ref. 26096], Bray et al. 2006:1186 [ref. 29088], Gomon & Last 2008:584 [ref. 30651], Fricke et al. 2009:59 [ref. 30213], Stewart et al. 2015:1267 [ref. 34201], Fricke et al. 2018:192 [ref. 35805], Sutton et al. 2020:273 [ref. 37832], Anderson 2022:22 [ref. 39875]). •Valid as Pteraclis veliferum (Pallas 1770). Current status: Valid as Pteraclis veliferum (Pallas 1770). Bramidae. Distribution: Southeastern Atlantic: South Africa; Indo-West Pacific: South Africa and Mozambique to Madagascar and western Mascarenes; Indonesia; Australia and New Zealand to New Caledonia. Habitat: marine.
