Based on multiple sources, including the "Labrus totus rubescens ..." of Artedi 1738:54 [ref. 30349], which is based on multiple pre-Linnaean sources from Greece, Italy and France (Mediterranean Sea), and on the "Anthea quartus Rondeletii" of Catesby 1743:25, Pl. 25 [ref. 774] from the Bahamas; currently restricted to the eastern Atlantic species.
