Description based on the holotype which was donated via the Netherlands to MNHN, and on the 'Chætodon percatus; spinis dorsalibus novem, analibus duo; corpore elongato, fasciato; mento barbato' in a manuscript by Bosc (Louis-Augustin Bosc d'Antic, 1759-1828, French diplomat and naturalist); see Sonnini 1803:156 [ref. 30473]. Figured on Pl. 16 (fig. 2) of Lacepède 1800 [ref. 2709], but with vernacular name. Also appeared in Sonnini 1803:155, 156 (vol. 8) [ref. 30473]. •Synonym of Pogonias cromis (Linnaeus 1766) -- (Chao 1978:34 [ref. 6983], Parenti 2020:45 [ref. 37439]). Current status: Synonym of Pogonias cromis (Linnaeus 1766). Sciaenidae. Habitat: brackish, marine.
