Type catalog: Paepke 1999:92 [ref. 24282]. Genus name spelled Lutianus on plate. On p. 5 of Bloch's Ichthyologie, v. 8 [ref. 21381]. As the name is frequently used, the name rostratus is preferrred over the older scina. •Synonym of Symphodus scina (Fabricius 1775) -- (Parin et al. 2014:381 [ref. 33547]). •Valid as Symphodus rostratus (Bloch 1791) -- (Bauchot & Quignard 1973:433 [ref. 7204], Quignard & Pras in Whitehead et al. 1986:939 [ref. 13676], Parenti & Randall 2000:43 [ref. 24943], Bilecenoğlu et al. 2002:115 [ref. 26753] dated 1797, Parin 2003:S19 [ref. 28536], Fricke et al. 2007:95 [ref. 29533], Ninua & Japoshvili 2008:171 [ref. 31251], Kuiter 2010:82 [ref. 35285], Lipej & Dulčić 2010:55 [ref. 36649], Manilo 2017:21 [ref. 36241], Artüz & Fricke 2019:558 [ref. 36612], Elbaraasi et al. 2019:99 [ref. 36864]). Current status: Valid as Symphodus rostratus (Bloch 1791). Labridae. Distribution: Mediterranean, Sea of Marmara, western Black Sea. Habitat: marine.
