schomburgkii, Polycentrus Müller [J.] & Troschel [F. H.] 1849:622 [Reisen in Britisch-Guiana; ref. 3072] Essequibo River, Guyana. Syntypes: ZMB 1024 (2), 20604 (ca. 30). Long recognized as valid, but threatened by Labrus puncatatus Linnaeus 1758 as shown by Paepke 1993 [ref. 20914]. Opinion 1954 in June 2000 removed that threat, and P. schomburgkii is to be given precedence over the name Labrus punctatus whenever the two names are considered synonyms. Current status: Valid as Polycentrus schomburgkii Müller & Troschel 1849. Polycentridae. Distribution: South America: Trinidad, and Atlantic coastal rivers of Brazil (Brazil, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela). Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
