politus, Seriphus Ayres [W. O.] 1860:80, Fig. 21 [Proceedings of the California Academy of Sciences (Series 1) v. 2 (1858-1862); ref. 158] San Francisco Bay, California, U.S.A. No types known. Syntypes: (2 or 3) whereabouts unknown. Evidently all originals have a correction of "Seriphus politus" glued in the beginning of the account over "Corvina polita" so the original genus is Seriphus. Any types at CAS would have been lost in 1906. •Valid as Seriphus politus Ayres 1860 -- (Dimick 1944:253 [ref. 39451], Eschmeyer & Herald 1983:221 [ref. 9277], Peden & Hughes 1986:5 [ref. 9714], McAllister 1990:151 [ref. 14674], Chao in Fischer et al. 1995:1500 [ref. 22830], Nelson et al. 2004:148 [ref. 27807], Love et al. 2005:129 [ref. 37547], Page et al. 2013:153 [ref. 32708], Pietsch & Orr 2015:56 [ref. 34694], Kells et al. 2016:250 [ref. 35888], Burton & Lea 2019:77 [ref. 37205], Parenti 2020:50 [ref. 37439], Love et al. 2021:167 [ref. 39279], Page et al. 2023:210 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Seriphus politus Ayres 1860. Sciaenidae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: southern British Columbia (Canada) south to Pacific coast of southern Baja California Sur (Mexico). Habitat: marine.
