Holotype: BMNH 1853.11.12.42 [Gronovius coll.] (skin). Type catalog: Wheeler 1958:221 [ref. 13434]. Subjectively invalid; secondarily preoccupied in Cynoscion by Otolithus carolinensis Valenciennes 1833. •Synonym of Cynoscion regalis (Bloch & Schneider 1801) -- (Wheeler 1958:221 [ref. 13434], Chao 1978:36 [ref. 6983], Chao 2002:9 [ref. 26250], Parenti 2020:15 [ref. 37439]). 2°Homonym. Current status: Synonym of Cynoscion regalis (Bloch & Schneider 1801). Sciaenidae. Habitat: brackish, marine.
