Based on description in manuscript by Forster (Johann Reinhold Forster, 1729-1798, German explorer and naturalist of Cook's second voyage). •Synonym of the later Latridopsis forsteri (Castelnau 1872) -- (Gomon et al. 1994:656 [ref. 22532] apparently as a misidentification). •Valid as Latridopsis ciliaris (Forster 1801) -- (Paulin et al. 1989:204 [ref. 24556], Hardy in Amaoka et al. 1990:289 [ref. 16024], Paulin & Roberts 1992:150 [ref. 24625], Francis 1993:164 [ref. 25479], Smith et al. 2001:387 [ref. 25497], Roberts 2003:731 [ref. 27420], Hoese & Bray 2006:1363 [ref. 29000] with authorship as Bloch & Schneider, Duffy & Ahyong 2015:116 [ref. 36167], Roberts 2015:1359 [ref. 34193], Kimura et al. 2018:69 [ref. 36401], Ludt et al. 2019:131 [ref. 36635]). Current status: Valid as Latridopsis ciliaris (Forster 1801). Latridae. Distribution: Southwestern Pacific: southeastern Australia, New Zealand, Kermadec Islands. Habitat: marine.
