Type catalog: Freeman & Tunnicliffe 1997:9 [ref. 22860]. Also appeared as new in Haast 1875:428 [ref. 31431]. Misspelled forsteri in some early literature. Named for Mrs. J. C. Foster, so the specific name should have been fosterae. However, the original spelling fosteri is to be preserved according to ICZN Art. 31.1.3. •Valid as Cheimarrichthys fosteri Haast 1874 -- (McDowall 1973:208 [ref. 24630], Paulin et al. 1989:218 [ref. 24556], McDowall 2000:119 [ref. 24591], McDowall & Struthers 2015:1465 [ref. 34293]).
