B.] 1880:348 [Proceedings of the United States National Museum v. 3 (no. 165); ref. 1834] Off Long Island, New York, 40°02'54"N, 70°23'40"W, Fish Hawk station 871, depth 115 fathoms. Syntypes: (at least 2) USNM 26007 (1, primary specimen). Description based mostly on 54-mm specimen (Das and Nelson holotype), based on spine radial formula, at least one additional specimen was involved. •Valid as Bembrops gobioides (Goode 1880) -- (Robins & Ray 1986:218 [ref. 23100], Boschung 1992:159 [ref. 23239], Das & Nelson 1996:28 [ref. 22554], Thompson & Suttkus 1998:962 [ref. 23601], Moore et al. 2003:228 [ref. 27076], Thompson 2003:1744 [ref. 27088], Nelson et al. 2004:160 [ref. 27807], McEachran & Fechhelm 2005:565 [ref. 28815], Page et al. 2013:165 [ref. 32708], Page et al. 2023:216 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Bembrops gobioides (Goode 1880). Bembropidae. Distribution: Western Atlantic. Habitat: marine.
