Syntypes: USNM 30198 (1), 30797 (2). Appeared first as name only in Goode & Bean 1882:236 [ref. 20598], then as above. Appeared later as Bean in Goode & Bean 1882:419 [ref. 1840]; specimens used in 1882:419 are USNM 30198 (1) and 30797 (2). •Valid as Ioglossus calliurus Jordan & Gilbert 1882 -- (Burgess et al. 1980:82 [ref. 41504], Robins & Ray 1986:248 [ref. 23100], Boschung 1992:165 [ref. 23239]). •Valid as Ptereleotris calliura (Jordan & Gilbert 1882) -- (Schwartz 1999:289 [ref. 25307], Gasparini et al. 2001:110 [ref. 25302] as calliurus, Bussing 2001:138 [ref. 26033] as calliurus, Murdy & Hoese 2003:1794 [ref. 27111] as calliurus, Ross & Rhode 2004:315 [ref. 27789] as calliurus Bean 1882, Nelson et al. 2004:174 [ref. 27807], McEachran & Fechhelm 2005:726 [ref. 28815], Van Tassell 2011:147 [ref. 31732], Page et al. 2013:179 [ref. 32708], Robertson et al. 2016:148 [ref. 34961], Parenti 2021:404 [ref. 38603], Page et al. 2023:125 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Ptereleotris calliura (Jordan & Gilbert 1882). Gobiidae: Ptereleotrinae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: Massachusetts south to Florida (U.S.A.), including Gulf of Mexico (U.S.A., Mexico). IUCN (2015): Least Concern. Habitat: marine.
