Syntypes: AMS I.12625 (1), QM I.115 (1), I.9803 (1). •Synonym of Hephaestus fuliginosus (Macleay 1883) -- (Vari 1978:280 [ref. 4514], Paxton et al. 1989:533 [ref. 12442]). •Valid as Hephaestus tulliensis De Vis 1884 -- (Allen & Pusey 1999:158 [ref. 24291], Unmack 2001:1063 [ref. 25797], Allen et al. 2002:224 [ref. 25930], Allen et al. 2006:1335 [ref. 29004], Davis et al. 2012:1173 [ref. 32013]). Current status: Valid as Hephaestus tulliensis De Vis 1884. Terapontidae. Distribution: Easterly flowing rivers of the Wet Tropics bioregion, Daintree River south to Tully River, Queensland, Australia. Habitat: freshwater.
