Originally as Paratilapia? •Valid as Hoplotilapia retrodens (Hilgendorf 1888) -- (van Oijen 1991:198 [ref. 20959], Poll & Gosse 1995:275 [ref. 24781]). •Valid as Haplochromis (Hoplotilapia) retrodens (Hilgendorf 1888) -- (Seegers 2008:172 [ref. 29830]). Current status: Valid as Haplochromis retrodens (Hilgendorf 1888). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Victoria. Habitat: freshwater.
