H.] in Jordan & Evermann 1896:465 [United States Commission of Fish and Fisheries, Report of the Commissioner v. 21 (for 1895) Appendix 5; ref. 2442] Vernado Beach, about 3/4 way to Isla Venado, Canal Zone, Panama, depth 0.2 meters. Neotype: USNM 210625. Type catalog: Springer & Orrell 1996:15-16 [ref. 22274]. Based on Dactyloscopus sp. of Jordan & Gilbert 1882:628; single type specimen not found. Neotype designated by Dawson 1975:20 [ref. 7121]. •Valid as Dactyloscopus zelotes Jordan & Gilbert 1896 -- (Dawson 1975:20 [ref. 7121], Patzner et al. 2009:472 [ref. 30396]). Current status: Valid as Dactyloscopus zelotes Jordan & Gilbert 1896. Dactyloscopidae. Distribution: Panama Canal. Habitat: marine.
