Junior secondary homonym of Cyprinus barbus Linnaeus 1758 when placed in Barbus as by Günther 1868:135. •Synonym of Hemibarbus labeo (Pallas 1776), but a valid subspecies -- (Kawanabe & Mizuno 1989:324 [ref. 25598]). •Valid as Hemibarbus barbus (Temminck & Schlegel 1846) -- (Kuroda 1953:275 [ref. 39545], Okada 1961:444 [ref. 6363], Sawada in Masuda et al. 1984:56 [ref. 6441], Okamura & Machida 1987:105 [ref. 22279], Sato 1995:50 [ref. 25531], Watanabe 1998:263 [ref. 23491], Nakabo 2000:270 [ref. 25086], Matsuura et al. 2000:86 [ref. 26000], Nakabo 2002:270 [ref. 26001]). •Synonym of Hemibarbus labeo (Pallas 1776) -- (Lu et al. 1977:444 [ref. 2850], Kottelat 2006:35 [ref. 28831], Bogutskaya et al. 2008:325 [ref. 30085], Kottelat 2013:110 [ref. 32989], Dyldin & Orlov 2016:660 [ref. 34853]). 2°Homonym.
