Lectotype: MNHN A-9059. Paralectotypes: SAMA F1349 (3). Type catalog: Bauchot 1963:14 [ref. 19171] as "holotype", Glover 1976:173 [ref. 19449] states "an indeterminate number of specimens...; the 3 specimens found are labelled being either 'types or co-types'". Lectotype established by Bauchot 1963:14 [ref. 19171] (Art. 74.6 of the Code) or else by Russell 1988:10 [ref. 12549]. •Valid as Dotalabrus aurantiacus (Castelnau 1872) -- (Russell 1988:8 [ref. 12549], Kuiter 1993:277 [ref. 23929], Gomon et al. 1994:685 [ref. 22532], Kuiter 1997:284 [ref. 25488], Parenti & Randall 2000:18 [ref. 24943], Hutchins 2001:268 [ref. 25841], Hutchins 2001:39 [ref. 25847], Allen et al. 2006:1388 [ref. 29095], Russell & Gomon 2008:647 [ref. 30655], Kuiter 2010:245 [ref. 35285], Hoschke et al. 2019:158 [ref. 36626]). Current status: Valid as Dotalabrus aurantiacus (Castelnau 1872). Labridae. Distribution: Southeastern Indian Ocean, southwestern Pacific: Port Philip Bay (Victoria, Australia) and northern Tasmania west to Rottnest Island (Western Australia). IUCN (2010): Least concern. Habitat: marine.
