S.] 1928:44, Figs. 7-11 [Trudy Astrakhanskoi nauchnoi rybokhoziaistvennoi stantsii = Reports of the Astrakhan Scientific Fishery Station v. 6 (no. 3); ref. 2296] Northern Caspian Sea, near mouths of rivers Volga, Ural, and Emba, Russia and Kazakhstan. Syntypes: (many) ZIN 25417 (5) Volga. Based in part on Gobius longecaudatus var. c of Kessler 1877. •Valid as Knipowitschia bergi (Iljin 1928) -- (Kottelat & Freyhof 2007:567 [ref. 29996], Thacker et al. 2018:[4] [ref. 36082]). •Valid as Hyrcanogobius bergi Iljin 1928 -- (Berg 1949:1069 [ref. 20662], Coad 1995:30 [ref. 23608], Reshetnikov et al. 1997:754 [ref. 24702], Vasil'eva 1998:135 [ref. 23591], Miller & Pinchuk in Miller 2004:432 [ref. 27853], Bogutskaya & Naseka 2004:220 [ref. 28183], Esmaeili et al. 2010:377 [ref. 33391], Jouladeh-Roudbar et al. 2015:898 [ref. 34062], Esmaeili et al. 2017:82 [ref. 35254], Esmaeili et al. 2018:64 [ref. 36089]). Current status: Valid as Hyrcanogobius bergi Iljin 1928. Gobiidae: Gobionellinae. Distribution: Caspian Sea basin, Eurasia. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
