Syntypes and non-types: (originally 2 syntypes) BMNH 1898.9.10.5-6 (2); SAM 17404 (1), 17406 (6, not found in 1996). Type catalog: Fricke 1982:74 [ref. 5432]. On p. 9 of v. 1 in 1902. •Valid as Paracallionymus costatus (Boulenger 1898) -- (Fricke 1982:74 [ref. 5432], Fricke 1983:558 [ref. 8349], Fricke 1986:773 [ref. 5653], Davis & Fricke 1990:922 [ref. 19375], Bianchi & Carpenter in Bianchi et al. 1993:167 [ref. 25472], Fricke 2002:51 [ref. 26547], Fricke et al. 2014:9 [ref. 33442], Fricke in Carpenter & De Angelis 2016:2821 [ref. 34618], Fricke & Anderson 2022:462 [ref. 39659]). Current status: Valid as Paracallionymus costatus (Boulenger 1898). Callionymidae. Distribution: Southeastern Atlantic and western Indian Ocean: Lüderitz (Namibia) south to Cape of Good Hope (South Africa), then north to Maputo (Mozambique). Habitat: marine.
