The spelling tanakae is acceptable as early workers almost certainly Latinized the name first, and then added an "e' (Art. 31.1.1) [WNE, 12 Mar. 2012] -- suggesting tanakae •Status uncertain, in Bothrocara -- (Anderson & Fedorov 2004:48 [ref. 27603]). •Valid as Bothrocara tanakae (Jordan & Hubbs 1925) -- (Anderson 1994:116 [ref. 21438], Nakabo 2000:1041 [ref. 25182], Nakabo 2002:1041 [ref. 26193], Anderson et al. 2009:188 [ref. 30175], Shinohara et al. 2011:50 [ref. 31715], Shinohara et al. 2014:264 [ref. 33330], Dyldin & Orlov 2021:835 [ref. 38925]). •Valid as Zestichthys tanakae Jordan & Hubbs 1925 -- (Lindberg & Krasyukova 1975:185 [ref. 7348], Toyoshima in Amaoka et al. 1983:149, 210 [ref. 8379], Toyoshima in Masuda et al. 1984:309 [ref. 6441] as tanakai, Shinohara et al. 1996:182 [ref. 26605] as tanakai, Balushkin et al. 2011:1022 [ref. 32449], Parin et al. 2014:429 [ref. 33547]).
