Lectotype: USNM 47576 [ex CAS-SU 1607]. Paralectotypes: CAS-SU 1607 (now 1), ZMB 15441 [ex SU] (1). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:64 [ref. 12291]. Also described as new in Gilbert 1897:440 [ref. 1629] where lectotype was established by use of "type". •Valid as Xenomugil thoburni (Jordan & Starks 1896) -- (Allen & Robertson 1994:194 [ref. 22193], Harrison in Fischer et al. 1995:1298 [ref. 22830], Grove & Lavenberg 1997:464 [ref. 24023], Chirichigno F. & Vélez D. 1998:198 [ref. 24555], Nelson et al. 2004:97 [ref. 27807], Page et al. 2013:99 [ref. 32708], Fourriére et al. 2016:442 [ref. 34668], Del Moral-Flores et al. 2016:607 [ref. 34923]). •Valid as Mugil thoburni Jordan & Starks 1896 -- (Thomson 1997:493 [ref. 23428], Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:180 [ref. 24550], McCosker & Rosenblatt 2010:190 [ref. 30957], Durand et al. 2012:694 [ref. 32366], Durand & Borsa 2015:268 [ref. 34115], Durand 2016:32 [ref. 35589]). Current status: Valid as Mugil thoburni (Jordan & Starks 1896). Mugilidae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific. Habitat: marine.
