Type catalog: Fricke 1982:70 [ref. 5432]. Lectotype selected by Boeseman 1947:131 [ref. 12876]. Paralectotype (RMNH 2097) referred to Callionymus doryssus (Jordan & Fowler 1903) by Fricke 1982:67 [ref. 5432] and Fricke 2002:18 [ref. 26547]. •Valid as Callionymus variegatus Temminck & Schlegel 1845 -- (Fricke 1982:70 [ref. 5432], Fricke 1983:451 [ref. 8349], Fricke 2002:44 [ref. 26547]). •Valid as Pseudocalliurichthys variegatus (Temminck & Schlegel 1845) -- (Nakabo in Masuda et al. 1984:344 [ref. 6441], Nakabo 2000:1135 [ref. 25182], Nakabo 2002:1135 [ref. 26193], Iwatsubo & Motomura 2010:70 [ref. 31555]). Current status: Valid as Callionymus variegatus Temminck & Schlegel 1845. Callionymidae. Distribution: Western North Pacific: Taiwan to southern Japan. Habitat: marine.
