Holotype: WAM P.25346-002. Paratypes: AMS I.18627-001 (1); WAM P.25251-019 (1), P.25252-009 (1), P.25343-010 (1), P.25498-001 (1). Type catalog: Hutchins & Smith 1991:34 [ref. 19335], Moore et al. 2008:37 [ref. 30117] as caninus. Spelled caninis throughout the original description, and that name should apparently be used. •Valid as Siphonognathus caninis (Scott 1976). •Valid as Siphonognathus caninis [sometimes as caninus] (Scott 1976) -- (Gomon & Paxton 1986:47 [ref. 5656], Kuiter 1993:305 [ref. 23929], Gomon et al. 1994:708 [ref. 22532], Hutchins 2001:269 [ref. 25841], Hutchins 2001:40 [ref. 25847], Bray & Hoese 2006:1423 [ref. 29049], Gomon 2008:666 [ref. 30616], Hoschke et al. 2019:158 [ref. 36626]). •Valid as Parodax caninis Scott 1976 -- (Kuiter 2010:75 [ref. 35285] as caninus). Current status: Valid as Parodax caninis Scott 1976. Odacidae. Distribution: Southeastern Indian Ocean: Tasmania and Victoria to Western Australia. Habitat: marine.
