Species was "restricted" by Greenwood 1959:182 [ref. 20616] to specimen figured in "Fishes of the Nile", but technically no lectotype was established by Greenwood; lectotype selected by Eschmeyer 1998:1211 [ref. 23416] if not previously established. •Valid as Haplochromis obesus (Boulenger 1906) -- (Greenwood 1959:182 [ref. 20616], van Oijen et al. 1991:153 [ref. 20956]). Current status: Valid as Haplochromis obesus (Boulenger 1906). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Victoria and Lake Kwania. Habitat: freshwater.
