amphimelas, Tilapia Hilgendorf [F. M.] 1905:405 [Zoologische Jahrbücher, Abteilung für Systematik, Geographie und Biologie der Tiere (Jena) v. 22 (no. 4); ref. 15364] Lake Manyara, east Africa. Syntypes: (2) ZMB 16373 (now 3). •Valid as Oreochromis amphimelas (Hilgendorf 1905) -- (Trewavas & Teugels 1991:308 [ref. 20954], Ford et al. 2019:223 [ref. 36713], Sherlock et al. 2025:3 [ref. 42459]). Current status: Valid as Oreochromis amphimelas (Hilgendorf 1905). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: East Africa: Soda Lakes Manyara, Eyasi, Kindai, Kitangiri, Singida and Sulungali (central Tanzania). Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
