M.] (ex Gilbert) 1911:16 [University of California Publications in Zoology v. 8 (no. 2); ref. 4199] Off San Nicolas Island, southern California, U.S.A., Albatross station 4421, depth 229-298 fathoms. Holotype: USNM 75819. Paratypes: CAS-SU 22399 (1). Type catalog: Springer & Anderson 1997:15-16 [ref. 22953]. Also appeared as new in Gilbert 1915:362 [ref. 1632]. Three specimens from off San Diego used by Starks & Mann are considered paratypes (whereabouts of two are unknown). •Valid as Maynea californica Starks & Mann 1911 -- (Eschmeyer & Herald 1983:106 [ref. 9277], Toyoshima 1985:143 [ref. 5722]). •Valid as Eucryphycus californicus (Starks & Mann 1911) -- (Anderson 1988:94 [ref. 6021], Anderson 1994:116 [ref. 21438], Anderson & Fedorov 2004:13 [ref. 27603], Nelson et al. 2004:157 [ref. 27807], Love et al. 2005:140 [ref. 37547], Balushkin et al. 2011:976 [ref. 32449], Page et al. 2013:162 [ref. 32708], Kells et al. 2016:350 [ref. 35888], Burton & Lea 2019:82 [ref. 37205], Love et al. 2021:180 [ref. 39279], Page et al. 2023:211 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Eucryphycus californicus (Starks & Mann 1911). Zoarcidae: Lycodinae. Distribution: Northeastern Pacific: central to southern California (U.S.A.) endemic. Habitat: marine.
