Paratypes: AMS I.17888-001 (2); BPBM 15475 (2); CAS 30649 (2); RMNH 27057 (2); USNM 212132 (2), 212133 (1, c&s). •Valid as Apogon melanoproctus Fraser & Randall 1976 -- (Myers 1999:126 [ref. 23965], Allen 1999:2606 [ref. 24812], Allen & Adrim 2003:35 [ref. 26830]). •Valid as Ostorhinchus melanoproctus (Fraser & Randall 1976) -- (Allen & Erdmann 2012:397 [ref. 31980], Fraser 2012:82 [ref. 32177], Mabuchi et al. 2014:200 [ref. 33426], Fricke et al. 2019:135 [ref. 36673], Kuiter & Kozawa 2019:101 [ref. 36965], Allen & Erdmann 2024:422 [ref. 40796]). Current status: Valid as Ostorhinchus melanoproctus (Fraser & Randall 1976). Apogonidae: Apogoninae. Distribution: Western Pacific: Indonesia east to Palau and New Ireland (Papua New Guinea), north to Philippines, south to Solomon Islands. Habitat: marine.
