aurantonotus, Centropyge Burgess [W. E.] 1974:90, Fig. [Tropical Fish Hobbyist v. 23 (no. 3); ref. 7492] Off Oistins, Barbados, West Indies, depth 50-60 feet. Holotype: USNM 213840. Paratypes: UF 232733 [ex UMML 32733] (1). If aurantonotus is an adjective, the correct spelling when in Centropyge is aurantonota. C. aurantiontus is a defective formation but it can not be changes; it should have been aurantionotus according to M. Zarazaga, from R. Pyle, email Aug. 2016. •Valid as Centropyge aurantonotus Burgess 1974 -- (Allen 1980:249 [ref. 22764], Robins & Ray 1986:194 [ref. 23100], Cervigón 1992:383 [ref. 23827], Randall 1995:254 [ref. 22896], Andreata & Séret 1996:587 [ref. 16204], Gasparini & Floeter 2001:1645 [ref. 25634], Burgess 2003:1678 [ref. 27101], Moura & Menezes in Menezes et al. 2003:90 [ref. 27192], Wirtz et al. 2007:14, 36 [ref. 30263], Gaither et al. 2014:44 [ref. 35448], Pinheiro et al. 2015:21 [ref. 34324], Brown et al. 2019:178 [ref. 36444]). Current status: Valid as Centropyge aurantonotus Burgess 1974. Pomacanthidae. Distribution: Western Atlantic; southern central Atlantic: Saint Helena Island; eastern Atlantic: São Tomé Island. Habitat: marine.
