D., Jr.] 1970:335, Fig. 3 [United States National Marine Fisheries Service Fishery Bulletin v. 68 (no. 2); ref. 7662] Off northeastern coast of Hawaii Island, Hawaiian Islands, 155°25'W to 20°08'N, 155°28'W, depth 130 fathoms. Holotype: USNM 204389. Paratypes: BPBM 9778-79 (1, 3), 14196 [ex UH] (1), 18071 [ex UH] (8); USNM 204388 (12). •Valid as Symphysanodon maunaloae Anderson 1970 -- (Tameka in Okamura et al. 1982:219, 372 [ref. 8256], Katayama in Masuda et al. 1984:138 [ref. 6441], Lee 1989:70 [ref. 14122], Carpenter 1999:2437 [ref. 24813], Nakabo 2000:733 [ref. 25086], Nakabo 2002:733 [ref. 26001], Myers & Donaldson 2003:627 [ref. 27495] as maunaloa, Anderson & Springer 2005:5, 26 [ref. 28238], Mundy 2005:339 [ref. 28379], Randall 2007:186 [ref. 30952], Quéro et al. 2009:73 [ref. 30244], Fricke et al. 2011:383 [ref. 31242], Kimura et al. 2017:63 [ref. 35364], Psomadakis et al. 2020:399 [ref. 37272] as cf. maunaloae, Kawai et al. 2020:45 [ref. 37785]). Current status: Valid as Symphysanodon maunaloae Anderson 1970. Symphysanodontidae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, Pacific: Andaman Sea off Thailand, Malaysia, Lombok (Indonesia) and Solomon Islands east to Kyushu-Palau-Ridge, Hawaiian Islands and Sala-y-Gómez Ridge, south to New Caledonia and Norfolk Ridge. Habitat: marine.
