Lectotype: ZIN 8560 [now at ZISP]. Paralectotypes: ZIN (6) [ex ZMMU] trib. of Terek R., Mus. Kazan Univ. (1) Terek R. The description and figure are based on the specimen ZISP 8560; that specimen designated lectotype by Eschmeyer 1998:341 [ref. 23416]. •Valid as Cobitis caucasica Berg 1906 -- (Berg 1949:896 [ref. 20661], Coad 1995:21 [ref. 23608]). •Valid as Sabanejewia caucasica (Berg 1906) -- (Reshetnikov et al. 1997:745 [ref. 24702], Vasil'eva 1998:103 [ref. 23591], Bogutskaya et al. 2001:45 [ref. 26178], Bogutskaya & Naseka 2004:110 [ref. 28183], Kottelat & Freyhof 2007:324 [ref. 29996], Esmaeili et al. 2010:372 [ref. 33391], Kottelat 2012:42 [ref. 32367], Jouladeh-Roudbar et al. 2015:882 [ref. 34062], Esmaeili et al. 2017:61 [ref. 35254], Esmaeili et al. 2018:41 [ref. 36089]). Current status: Valid as Sabanejewia caucasica (Berg 1906). Cobitidae. Distribution: Caspian Sea basin: Terek and Khaidon River basins, Russia and ? Iran. Habitat: freshwater.
