Original genus is correctly Nemacheilus. •Valid as Nemachilus abyssinicus Boulenger 1902 -- (Roberts 1984:343 [ref. 6182], Poll & Gosse 1995:95 [ref. 24781], Bănărescu & Nalbant 1995:458 [ref. 23187] but generic placement uncertain). •Valid as Afronemacheilus abyssinicus (Boulenger 1902) dated in error as 1901 -- (Prokofiev 2009:881 [ref. 30604], Kottelat 2012:76 [ref. 32367], Prokofiev & Golubtsov 2013:3 [ref. 32805], Prokofiev 2017:230 [ref. 35630]). Current status: Valid as Afronemacheilus abyssinicus (Boulenger 1902). Nemacheilidae. Distribution: Lake Tana and Blue Nile basin, Ethiopia. Habitat: freshwater.
