Kaup perhaps saw only one specimen, therefore no paratypes. •Valid as Heteromycteris capensis Kaup 1858 -- (Heemstra & Gon 1986:871 [ref. 5665], Bianchi & Carpenter in Bianchi et al. 1993:179 [ref. 25472], Evseenko 1998:61 [ref. 23643], Desoutter-Meniger & Chapleau 2022:396 [ref. 40245]). Current status: Valid as Heteromycteris capensis Kaup 1858. Soleidae. Distribution: Southeastern Atlantic, southwestern Indian Ocean: Namibia south to Cape of Good Hope (South Africa), then north to southern Mozambique. Habitat: brackish, marine.
