quadrocellatus, Ancylopsetta Gill [T. N.] 1864:224 [Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia v. 16 (no. 4); ref. 5773] Pensacola, Florida, U.S.A. Holotype (unique): USNM 8081. See account of Paralichthys ommatus Jordan & Gilbert 1883; Gill's name has been replaced, but not needed anymore. The substitute name is not in use and the junior secondary homonym of Platessa quadrocellata Storer 1847 is not to be rejected on grounds of that replacement [ICZN Art. 59.3]. Originally as quadrocellatus but change to quadrocellata is necessary for gender agreement. •Synonym of Ancylopsetta ommata (Jordan & Gilbert 1883) -- (Carvalho-Filho 2023:272 [ref. 40480]). •Valid as Ancylopsetta quadrocellata Gill 1864 -- (Gutherz 1966:469 [ref. 9034], Gutherz 1967:14 [ref. 23862], Robins & Ray 1986:289 [ref. 23100], Boschung 1992:172 [ref. 23239], Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:473 [ref. 24550], Munroe 2003:1913 [ref. 27118], Nelson et al. 2004:179 [ref. 27807], McEachran & Fechhelm 2005:838 [ref. 28815], Page et al. 2013:184 [ref. 32708]). 2°Homonym. Current status: Valid as Ancylopsetta quadrocellata Gill 1864. Paralichthyidae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: North Carolina (U.S.A.) south to northern Brazil, including Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea. Habitat: marine.
