P.] 1813:250, Pl. 4 (fig. 2) [Nouveau Bulletin des Sciences, par la Société Philomathique, Paris. v. 3 (no. 67); ref. 18094] Port Recherche, Terre de Nyts, Great Australian Bight, Australia. Syntypes: MNHN B-1503 (1), B-1504 (1). Type catalog: Le Danois 1962:468 [ref. 21440] as holotype and paratype. Also appeared in Bleeker 1855:24, Fig. 3 [ref. 346], but that was a new combination and not an original description. Original genus should have been spelled Tetraodon. •Valid as Contusus richei (Fréminville 1813) -- (Hardy 1981 [ref. 8595], Paulin et al. 1989:245 [ref. 24556], Kuiter 1993:421 [ref. 23929], Gomon et al. 1994:905 [ref. 22532], Kuiter 1997:414 [ref. 25488], Ebert 2001:76 [ref. 25494], Hoese et al. 2006:1920 [ref. 29099], Matsuura 2008:851 [ref. 30661], Stewart & Roberts 2015:1735 [ref. 34322]). Current status: Valid as Contusus richei (Fréminville 1813). Tetraodontidae. Distribution: Australia to New Zealand region. Habitat: marine.
