kitaharae, Microstomus Jordan [D. S.] & Starks [E. C.] 1904:625, Pl. 7 (fig. 2) [Bulletin of the U. S. Fish Commission v. 22 [1902]; ref. 2526] Matsushima Bay, Japan, Albatross station 3770, depth 42-45 fathoms. Holotype: USNM 51418. Paratypes: BMNH 1930.9.2.25 [ex SU] (1); CAS-SU 8390 (not found), 8995 (10), 8996 (7); USNM 51402 (4), 51409 (2), 51419 (4), 51450 (6), 51840 (7). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:142 [ref. 12291]. The spelling kitaharae is acceptable; early workers almost certainly Latinized the name first, and then added an 'e' (Art. 31.1.1) [WNE, 12 Mar. 2012]-- we now suggest using kitaharae (both names are in current use). •Valid as Tanakius kitaharae (Jordan & Starks 1904) (also seen as kitaharai) -- (Amaoka in Okamura et al. 1982:301, 407 [ref. 8256], Sakamoto 1984:210 [ref. 5273], Sakamoto in Masuda et al. 1984:353 [ref. 6441], Matsuura in Okamura et al. 1985:623, 741 [ref. 8056], Lindberg & Fedorov 1993:169 [ref. 21500], Kim & Youn 1994:123 [ref. 22286], Li & Wang 1995:256 [ref. 16193], Shinohara et al. 1996:184 [ref. 26605], Cheng & Zhou 1997:452 [ref. 26385], Evseenko 1998:60 [ref. 23643], Nakabo 2000:1376 [ref. 25182], Shinohara et al. 2001:336 [ref. 25995], Nakabo 2002:1376 [ref. 26193], Choi et al. 2003:432, 686 [ref. 26218], Evseenko 2004:15 [ref. 27606], Shinohara et al. 2005:443 [ref. 28370], Shinohara et al. 2011:57 [ref. 31715], Ohashi & Motomura 2011:100 [ref. 32413], Shinohara et al. 2014:277 [ref. 33330], Miyazaki et al. 2019:123 [ref. 37957], Sonoyama et al. 2020:122 [ref. 37637]). •Valid as Glyptocephalus kitaharae (Jordan & Starks 1904) -- (Cooper & Chapleau 1998:712 [ref. 26711], Vinnikov et al. 2018:159 [ref. 35844], Kim et al. 2020:189 [ref. 39118], Dyldin et al. 2021:96 [ref. 38934], Tashiro 2022:84 [ref. 39012]).
