vitiazi, Selachophidium Nielsen [J. G.] 1971:30, Fig. 13 [Archiv für Fischereiwissenschaft v. 22 (no. 1); ref. 7451] Indian Ocean, 23°57'S, 112°14'E, depth 834 meters. Holotype (unique): ZIN 39767. Original spelling was vitiazi with "(1 specimen caught by the "Vitiaz")." The name of the ship is usually spelled Vityaz, but technically the spelling vitiazi should be continued. •Valid as Monomitopus vitiazi (Nielsen 1971) -- (Carter & Cohen 1985:86 [ref. 5145], Nielsen & Cohen in Nielsen et al. 1999:78 [ref. 24448] as vityazi, Hutchins 2001:23 [ref. 25847], Hoese et al. 2006:562 [ref. 29051], Girard & Johnson 2024:6 [ref. 41368]). Current status: Valid as Monomitopus vitiazi (Nielsen 1971). Ophidiidae: Neobythitinae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, southwestern Pacific: Shark Bay (Western Australia) east to Cape York, northern Queensland (Australia). IUCN (2020): Least Concern. Habitat: marine.
