Other specimens: (11) GCRL [ex SAIAB [formerly RUSI]] (2), NMW 75532 (1), RMNH 920 (orig. 13, now 11). •Valid as Syngnathus watermeyeri Smith 1963 -- (Dawson 1985:190 [ref. 6541], Dawson 1986:457 [ref. 5650], Dawson 1986:287 [ref. 6201], Whitfield 1995:152 [ref. 22144], Heemstra & Heemstra 2004:141 [ref. 28072], Kuiter 2009:257 [ref. 30404], Mwale et al. 2013:2059 [ref. 38388], Hamilton et al. 2016:Supplement 3 [ref. 35615], Moots 2022:493 [ref. 39722]). Current status: Valid as Syngnathus watermeyeri Smith 1963. Syngnathidae: Syngnathinae. Distribution: Southwestern Indian Ocean: Eastern Cape (South Africa) endemic. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
