Paratypes: (4) not researched. •Mention -- (McCosker 1977:63 [ref. 6836]). •Valid as Xestochilus nebulosus (Smith 1962) -- (McCosker 1998:210 [ref. 23298], Smith & McCosker 1999:1669 [ref. 24715], Randall & Earle 2000:8 [ref. 25806], Allen & Erdmann 2012:111 [ref. 31980], Fricke et al. 2015:63 [ref. 33895], Delrieu-Trottin et al. 2015:4 [ref. 33988], Fricke et al. 2018:46 [ref. 35805], Golani & Fricke 2018:29 [ref. 36273], McCosker 2022:133 [ref. 39686]). Current status: Valid as Xestochilus nebulosus (Smith 1962). Ophichthidae: Ophichthinae. Distribution: Red Sea; Indo-West Pacific: Mozambique, Seychelles and Madagascar; Andaman Islands; Indonesia east to Palau, Marshall Islands and Marquesas Islands (French Polynesia). Habitat: marine.
