Paratypes: whereabouts unknown (3), French Instit. Ichthyol. (1). On p. 24 of English translation. •Synonym of Cheilopogon agoo (Temminck & Schlegel 1846), but a valid subspecies as described -- (Pequeño 1989:50 [ref. 14125] as rapanuiensis, Parin in Fischer et al. 1995:1096 [ref. 22829]). •Valid as Cheilopogon rapanouiensis Parin 1961 -- (Parin 1996:305 [ref. 23179], Parin 1999:2172 [ref. 24786], Fricke et al. 2011:370 [ref. 31242]). Current status: Valid as Cheilopogon rapanouiensis Parin 1961. Exocoetidae. Distribution: Pacific. Habitat: marine.
