Holotype: CUMV 25914. Paratypes: CUMV 22849 (58), 25915 (1, allotype); UMMZ 167171 (17). Additional material: CUMV 19179 (10), 21512 (4), 24418 (7); UMMZ 129084 (1), 129106 (1), 157471 (29); USNM 102433 (1). •Valid as Cottus baileyi Robins 1961 -- (Lee et al. 1980:804 [ref. 22416], Page & Burr 1991:250 [ref. 18983], Jenkins & Burkhead 1994:644 [ref. 21581], Kinziger et al. 2000:1007 [ref. 25019], Nelson et al. 2004:119 [ref. 27807], Scharpf 2008:7 [ref. 30399], Page & Burr 2011:476 [ref. 31215], Page et al. 2013:122 [ref. 32708], Goto et al. 2014:[10] [ref. 33456], Page et al. 2023:183 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Cottus baileyi Robins 1961. Cottidae. Distribution: Eastern North America: upper Tennessee River drainage, Virginia and Tennessee (U.S.A.). Habitat: freshwater.
