Paratypes: SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 18553 (1, Aldabra Island). •Synonym of Stegastes fasciolatus (Ogilby 1889) -- (Allen & Emery 1985:15 [ref. 5236], Allen 1986:682 [ref. 5631]). •Valid as Stegastes luteobrunneus (Smith 1960) -- (Fricke et al. 2009:81 [ref. 30213], Fricke et al. 2013:265 [ref. 32706], Fricke et al. 2018:275 [ref. 35805], Arndt & Fricke 2019:27 [ref. 36883], Parenti 2021:84 [ref. 38418], Allen 2022:163 [ref. 39911]). •Valid as Plectroglyphidodon luteobrunneus (Smith 1960) -- (Tang et al. 2021:286 [ref. 38308], Anto et al. 2024:6 [ref. 40874]). Current status: Valid as Plectroglyphidodon luteobrunneus (Smith 1960). Pomacentridae: Microspathodontinae. Distribution: Red Sea; Indian Ocean: KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa), East Africa, Seychelles, Madagascar, Mascarenes (La RĂ©union, Mauritius, Rodrigues) and Lakshadweep (India) east to Andaman Sea and Cocos-Keeling Islands (Australia).
