F-G) [Ichthyological Bulletin, Department of Ichthyology, Rhodes University No. 17; ref. 12029] Pinda, Mozambique, western Indian Ocean. Holotype: SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 22 (head and skin). Paratypes: not researched. •Synonym of Lethrinus mahsena (Forsskål 1775) -- (Sato 1978:25 [ref. 8884]). •Valid as Lethrinus crocineus Smith 1959 -- (Smith 1986:597 [ref. 5712], Carpenter in Carpenter & Allen 1989:54 [ref. 13577], Fricke 1999:297 [ref. 24106], Manilo & Bogorodsky 2003:S110 [ref. 27377], Heemstra et al. 2004:3321 [ref. 27945], Heemstra & Heemstra 2004:244 [ref. 28072], Fricke et al. 2009:66 [ref. 30213], Allen & Erdmann 2012:495 [ref. 31980], Fricke et al. 2018:214 [ref. 35805]). Current status: Valid as Lethrinus crocineus Smith 1959. Lethrinidae. Distribution: Western Indian Ocean: South Africa, East Africa, Seychelles, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Sri Lanka and Andaman Sea. Habitat: marine.
