necopinus, Priolepis Whitley [G. P.] 1959:316 [Australian Zoologist v. 12 (pt 4); ref. 4729] Heron Island, Capricorn Group, Queensland, Australia. Holotype: AMS IB.3991. Paratypes: AMS IB.3992-93 (11, 7); USNM 177869 (2). The adjective necopinus (unexpected) must be declined. Trimma is neuter. •Valid as Trimma necopina (Whitley 1959) -- (Kuiter 1993:354 [ref. 23929], Johnson 1999:749 [ref. 25471], Larson & Murdy 2001:3600 [ref. 26293] as necopinna). •Valid as Trimma necopinus (Whitley 1959) -- (Winterbottom 1996:57 [ref. 22223], Winterbottom 2002:45 [ref. 26166], Hoese & Larson 2006:1689 [ref. 29097], Hagiwara & Winterbottom 2007:164 [ref. 29103]). •Valid as Trimma necopinum (Whitley 1959) -- (Hoese et al. 2015:539 [ref. 33990], Winterbottom & Hoese 2015:4, 60 [ref. 33709], Winterbottom 2019:56 [ref. 37115]). Current status: Valid as Trimma necopinum (Whitley 1959). Gobiidae: Gobiinae. Distribution: Southwestern Pacific: Cape York, Queensland south to Sydney, New South Wales (Australia). Habitat: marine.
