Holotype: SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 180. Paratypes: AMS 19412-001 [ex SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 650] (2); SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 650-661 (12, 1, 2, 3, 1, 5, 1, 1, 7, 3, 1, 1). Type catalog: Winterbottom 2019:56 [ref. 37115]. The gender of Trimma genus is neuter; flammeum is correct. •Synonym of Trimma macrophthalma [macrophthalmum] (Tomiyama 1936) -- (Hoese 1986:805 [ref. 5670], Randall 2005:553 [ref. 28239] as flammea). •Valid as Trimma flammeum (Smith 1959) -- (Randall & Goren 1993:22 [ref. 21131], Randall 1994:270 [ref. 21644], Winterbottom 2002:46 [ref. 26166], Winterbottom 2003:12 [ref. 26964], Hagiwara & Winterbottom 2007:164 [ref. 29103], Winterbottom & Southcott 2007:73 [ref. 29375], Winterbottom & Hoese 2015:4, 51 [ref. 33709], Fricke et al. 2018:341 [ref. 35805], Golani & Fricke 2018:161 [ref. 36273], Winterbottom 2019:56 [ref. 37115]). Current status: Valid as Trimma flammeum (Smith 1959). Gobiidae: Gobiinae. Distribution: Red Sea, Indian Ocean: East Africa, Madagascar, Seychelles, Maldives and Chagos Archipelago east to Andaman Islands. Replaced in western Pacific by T. macrophthalmus (Tomiyama 1936). Habitat: marine.
