Paratypes: (numerous) SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 704-712 (1, 1, 1, 12, 1, 3, 1, 2, 1). •Valid as Xenisthmus africanus Smith 1958 -- (Hoese 1986:811 [ref. 5670], Fricke 1999:527 [ref. 24106], Gill & Hoese 2004:242 [ref. 27774], Fricke et al. 2009:105 [ref. 30213], Fricke et al. 2018:344 [ref. 35805], Parenti 2021:57 [ref. 38603], Chen et al. 2022:16 [ref. 39615], Gill 2022:199 [ref. 40139]). Current status: Valid as Xenisthmus africanus Smith 1958. Xenisthmidae. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: East Africa (Mozambique, Tanzania), Aldabra (Seychelles), Madagascar, Saint Brandon's Shoals (Cargados Carajos) and western Mascarenes (La RĂ©union) east to Philippines and New Guinea. Habitat: marine.
