Type catalog: Spodareva et al. 2023:244 [ref. 40445] with neotype. Appeared as Asprocottus herzensteini brevis, name only, in Taliev 1948:113 [ref. 4316]. Neotype designation invalid, Bogdanov 2023:66 [ref. 40329]. •Valid as Asprocottus platycephalus Taliev 1955 [usually dated to 1948] -- (Sideleva 1982:29 [ref. 14469], Reshetnikov et al. 1997:760 [ref. 24702] dating to 1948, Sideleva 1998:156 [ref. 23595], Bogutskaya et al. 2001:47 [ref. 26178], Sideleva 2001:67 [ref. 26181], Kontula et al. 2003:149 [ref. 26791], Sideleva 2003:17, 187 [ref. 27815], Bogutskaya & Naseka 2004:196 [ref. 28183], Goto et al. 2014:[15] [ref. 33456], Bogdanov 2018:119 [ref. 37168], Dyldin et al. 2020:115 [ref. 37569]). •Valid as Abyssocottus platycephalus (Taliev 1955) -- (Bogdanov 2023:66 [ref. 40329]). Current status: Valid as Asprocottus platycephalus Taliev 1955. Cottidae. Distribution: North Asia: Lake Baikal, but mainly in northern part (Russia). Habitat: freshwater.
