S.] 1880:239 [Proceedings of the United States National Museum v. 2 (no. 84); ref. 2381] Suwanee Creek, tributary of Chattahoochee River, about 8 miles northwest of Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County, Georgia, U.S.A. Lectotype: USNM 23452. Paralectotypes: (about 20+) BMNH 1880.1.21.55 (1), MCZ 24395 (1), CAS-SU 1998 (1), USNM 31110 (1 or 2). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:33 [ref. 12291], Gilbert 1978:90 [ref. 7042], Gilbert 1998:167 [ref. 23395]. Use of "One of the typical examples" not sufficient to establish holotype, contrary to Gilbert 1978. Lectotype established by Jordan & Evermann 1896:285 [ref. 2443]; also by Gilbert 1998:167 [ref. 23395] and by Eschmeyer 1998:1818 [ref. 23416]. •Valid as Notropis zonistius (Jordan 1880) -- (Gilbert 1964:126 [ref. 12397], Gilbert 1978:90 [ref. 7042], Lee et al. 1980:328 [ref. 22416]). •Valid as Luxilus zonistius Jordan 1880 -- (Page & Burr 1991:112 [ref. 18983], Boschung 1992:51 [ref. 23239], Mettee et al. 1996:205 [ref. 25836], Gilbert 1998:167 [ref. 23395], Fuller et al. 1999:91 [ref. 25838], Nelson et al. 2004:72 [ref. 27807], Boschung & Mayden 2004:194 [ref. 27995], Scharpf 2005:23 [ref. 28940], Page & Burr 2011:224 [ref. 31215], Page et al. 2013:72 [ref. 32708], Robins et al. 2018:93 [ref. 35886]). •Valid as Coccotis zonistius (Jordan 1880) -- (Stout et al. 2022:7 [ref. 39738], Bagley et al. 2023:313 [ref. 41241], Page et al. 2023:68 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Coccotis zonistius (Jordan 1880). Leuciscidae: Pogonichthyinae. Distribution: Eastern North America: Georgia, Alabama and Florida (southeastern U.S.A.). Habitat: freshwater.
