Syntypes: MNHN 0000-3755 (5). Type catalog: Bertin 1940:284 [ref. 293] but wrong citation, Whitehead & Bauchot 1986:20 [ref. 9739], Russell & Bray 2026:66 [ref. 43233]. Based on the syntype series, and on a painting in NMV (BA 8794.1, labelled ‘Meletta vittata Cast’, No. ‘75’, ‘Hobson’s Bay’). •Valid as Hyperlophus vittatus (Castelnau 1875) -- (Whitehead 1985:188 [ref. 5141], Paxton et al. 1989:154 [ref. 12442], Kuiter 1993:35 [ref. 23929], Gomon et al. 1994:222 [ref. 22532], Johnson 1999:722 [ref. 25471], Hutchins 2001:18 [ref. 25847], Paxton et al. 2006:329 [ref. 28995], Gomon 2008:190 [ref. 30616], Hoschke et al. 2019:153 [ref. 36626], Russell & Bray 2026:66 [ref. 43233]). Current status: Valid as Hyperlophus vittatus (Castelnau 1875). Hyperlophidae. Distribution: Southeastern Indian Ocean, southwestern Pacific: southern Western Australia; southern Queensland south to eastern Victoria (Australia). IUCN (2017): Least Concern. Habitat: brackish, marine.
