(not located). Paratypes: CAS-SU 36026 (7), CAS [ex IU 11364] (7?, missing) Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:12 [ref. 12291]. As Pomolobus? melanostomus originally. •Valid as Ramnogaster melanostomus (Eigenmann 1907) (often seen as melanostoma) -- (Whitehead 1985:124 [ref. 5141], Cione et al. 1998:340 [ref. 23325], Sverlij et al. 1998:10 [ref. 27632], Kullander & Ferraris in Reis et al. 2003:37 [ref. 27061], López et al. 2003:9 [ref. 27366], Casciotta et al. 2003:71 [ref. 28130], Menni 2004:71 [ref. 28131], Litz & Koerber 2014:6 [ref. 33622] as melanostoma with question, Mirande & Koerber 2015:9 [ref. 35117], Nión et al. 2016:26 [ref. 35565] as melanostoma). Current status: Valid as Ramnogaster melanostoma (Eigenmann 1907). Clupeidae. Distribution: Lower portions of rivers along margin of La Plata River: Argentina and Uruguay. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
